I am person-centered, which means I utilize empathetic understanding to build on your strengths to work towards growth and fulfillment. Each and every one of us struggles with traumatic experiences in our lives. These experiences have the potential to shape our lives in ways that may not show up for years, or they may impact us immediately. Trauma is stored in our memory and our body. It affects us mentally, physically, and spiritually.
I specialize in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a psychotherapy that was developed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.
EMDR combines different elements to maximize treatment effects. It involves attention to three time periods: the past, present, and future. Focus is given to past disturbing memories and related events. Also, it is given to current situations that cause distress, and to develop the skills and attitudes needed for positive future actions (Shapiro emdr.com).
